Prerequisites:
You need to be a ChatGPT Plus user.
Installation Steps:
Setting up the ChatGPT Console:
Open the ChatGPT console.
Click on your user avatar and "Settings & Beta" at the bottom left corner.
Enabling Plugins:
Within the Settings, navigate to the "Beta Features" section and turn on the Plugins.
Installing AskYourPDF Plugin:
Head over to the Plugin store.
In the search bar, type "AskYourPDF".
You will see two versions of the AskYourPDF plugin:
a) Legacy Version: This version has a yellow icon and is available to everyone including free users.
b) Pro Version: This version has a black logo and offers enhanced features and advanced capabilities. It is designed for Premium, Pro, and Enterprise users.
If you choose to install the Pro version, you will be redirected to the AskYourPDF website where you will need to sign up or log in if you are an existing user.
After installation, ensure you enable the plugin by making sure the little box is ticked blue as shown below.
Uploading Documents:
Uploading and querying your documents using the AskYourPDF plugin is straightforward. There are two methods:
Using a URL:
If you have a URL linking to your document online, you can directly use it to query the document. Make sure the link ends with ".pdf" or any of the supported file formats. See example below:
You can also supply links to your documents on Google Drive and Dropbox.
If your file is stored locally on your device:
Click on the "Upload" button.
Select and upload your file from your local storage.
Once your document is uploaded or linked via URL, you can query it just like you would query ChatGPT in general, but in this case, your document forms the database from which AskYourPDF will output responses.
Advanced Plugin Commands:
The AskYourPDF plugin provides users with programmatic-like access to perform certain commands that aren't available via the web UI. For instance:
Listing Documents: You can use the prompt "list my documents" to view all your available documents.
Page numbers: You can ask for the number of pages a specific document contains with prompts like "How many pages does doc-id or doc-name have?"
Deleting Documents: If you wish to delete one, multiple, or all your documents, you can use the prompt "delete doc-id/doc-name(s)" or "delete all my documents". However, exercise caution when using these commands as the action is irreversible.
Conclusion:
The AskYourPDF plugin is a versatile tool that enhances the capabilities of ChatGPT Plus users, allowing them to seamlessly interact with documents. Always ensure to use the advanced commands responsibly to avoid unintended data loss. Enjoy querying your documents!
